ROCKIN' ROBIN

Saracen’s new opus – ‘Marilyn’ – features the unique vocal talent of American songstress Robin Beck...

Wherever the album’s story is told through Marilyn Monroe’s own thoughts and words, we are treated to the powerful, plaintive and passionate singing of Ms Beck. For this musical journey, Robin is Marilyn.

Rob Bendelow, the album’s creator, expresses his thoughts: “Robin has truly made the ‘first person’ songs her very own. Hearing Robin deliver ‘Make This Body Work’ for the first time will forever be a defining moment for me. Robin’s contribution to ‘Marilyn’ has simply been massive”.

James Christian (the ‘House of Lords’ front man) is both Robin’s vocal producer and her husband. Together they crafted the ‘Marilyn’ recordings, during 2010.

“The idea of this concept album appealed to me right from the off”, explains Robin. “I am most definitely a Marilyn Monroe fan, but most importantly, both James and I liked Rob’s compositions. I remember privately rehearsing the ballad ‘Not For Sure’ whilst lying next to a Hollywood-style pool in Orlando...complete with iPod, sun-hat and big shades. Even without a blonde wig I most definitely felt the part!”

SAX APPEAL!

Saracen’s new album – ‘Marilyn’ - has been graced by the UK’s top saxophonist – Snake Davis.

Snake has recorded &/or performed ‘live’ with such luminaries as: M-People, Lisa Stansfield, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, George Michael, Tina Turner, Take That, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Paul McCartney, Dave Stewart, Robert Palmer, Primal Scream, Rose Royce, Sister Sledge, Ruby Turner and Martha Reeves. Some pedigree!

“My great pal Howard (Carter) started raving to me about a Snake (Davis) concert he’d been to in Yorkshire, during the spring of 2010’, Rob explains. “Howard convinced me that some hi-end sax playing could add a perfect extra dimension to the album...and he has never been more right!”

Snake comments: “much of my music embraces soul, pop and jazz, but part of me has always enjoyed the rock dimension. ‘Marilyn’ demanded another ‘string from my bow’ so to speak, and I thoroughly enjoyed contributing”.
